WIE – Cultivating Diversity with User-Centered Design
June 19 @ 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm
“Putting the consumer first” is a buzzword frequently used throughout many industries, but the reality is that the user is often an afterthought amidst a myriad of other considerations. Technologists and designers can easily lose sight of who will consume their product or service, or think their offering might only satisfy a specific type of user. Applying a design thinking approach ensures the right user is the focus, and shared responsibility for this process is crucial to its success.
Merchandise Mart, 18th Floor
6:00-7:00pm: Presentation by Lexi Valasek: “Cultivating Diversity with User-Centered Design”
7:00-8:30pm: Demonstrations, Research Space Tour, Reception on the Merchandise Mart roof top deck
Originally hailing from Philadelphia, Lexi moved to Illinois to pursue a B.S in Mechanical Engineering from Northwestern University. Upon graduating, she started her career as an IT Consultant for Accenture, specializing in user adoption of new collaboration tools and restructuring a claims adjudication system for a healthcare insurance company. Lexi returned to Northwestern to receive a M.S. in Engineering Design and Innovation and, while no longer a practicing engineer, turned her focus on the needs of the end user. As a design researcher, she is motivated by learning about people’s behavior, understanding what people want, and utilizing her problem-solving skills to improve people’s daily touch points.
The event is free and open to everyone, but registration is required due to security in the building. Please register using the link
