Hello IEEE Chicago Section,

I apologize that I have not gotten this out sooner, as it has been a while since you have heard from past Chair Vickie Peters. I would like to introduce myself to those who may not know me. I am honored to have been chosen to chair this year and look forward to working with many of you. I am probably most remembered as the Special Events Chair who ran two wind farm tours and a clean energy tour in 2010-2011, and have been serving as the Treasurer on and off over the last three and a half years. As such, I have spent much of my time in Jan. and Feb. working with the chapters to insure we got all of the chapters and the section’s finances and records updated and filed by MGA’s deadline.

Having only been a member since 2008, I am still new to this organization and learning more and more every day as to how the section and IEEE organizations run. I have always had a passion and general interest in engineering and plan to use this passion to help continue the success of the section. If there is anything you would like to see happen at the section or any of the chapters please contact me. I will bring the subject up at an Executive Committee meeting or talk to the chapter chair to see what can be done to address the concern. Please do not hesitate to come to any of the section or chapter meetings. The Executive Committee meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month at the DeVry Addison Campus, 1221 N Swift Road. Generally in room 230.

I would like to form a Robotics and Automation Chapter and start planning this year for the Section’s 125th anniversary in 2018. Those interested in either of these events, please contact me so we can get them off the ground. I can be reached at richardson.david.2008@ieee.org.

We have a lot going on in the section. Come out and support the chapters. Dates and chapter activities are listed below. Hope to see you at some of the meetings.

The IEEE Chicago Section is hosting membership information booths at two Chicago conferences and is seeking volunteers to greet people and tell them about IEEE at these conferences:

  • The QUEST Quality Engineered Software and Testing Conference on April 20th and 21st Conference information can be found here: http://qaiquest.org/2016/
  • The SCTECH Supply Chain Technology Conference on July 19th and 20th at Navy Pier. Conference information can be found here: http://www.sctechshow.com

To volunteer at one of these conferences or ask questions, please contact dan.osullivan.us@ieee.org
