Scullen Middle School with their city called “Meccis City”

Future City Competition serves 6th, 7th and 8th graders. Sponsored by DiscoverE, this national program introduces students to engineering with popular Sim City software. Students design cities with simulation software, build scale models, write essays and give oral presentations on their city’s design.

The IEEE award was given to the student team from Scullen Middle School with their city called “Meccis City”. Individual plaques and a $25 Amazon Gift Card were given to the three presenting students along with a large plaque for the school to display. The entire student team from the school consisted of Zack Smith, Caymen Woods, Eric Cannon Jr., Donnie Minor Jr., Ben Mondesir, Alex Cannon, Saniya Parks, Overseeing Teachers Becky Zimmerman, Molly Thayer, Julie Albert, and Engineering mentors Richelle Minor and Tracey Parks. In addition to winning our IEEE award, Scullen also won “Best Presentation” and another special award from ASCE for “Best Design for Sustaining a City”. The first place winner in the overall competition was St Paul of the Cross with their city called “Vida sierra”. St. Paul of the Cross will represent Chicago at the National Competition in Washington D.C. which this year is the week before National Engineers Week.
