Nanotechnology Council, Chicago Chapter

Welcome to the website for IEEE Nanotechnology Council (NTC), Chicago chapter. The NTC, Chicago Chapter of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) focuses on the advancement and coordination of work in the field of Nanotechnology in the Chicago area. As part of the Chicago Section, the NTC Chapter provides a local interface to the worldwide network of the IEEE.

The NTC Chapter provides a forum for leading researchers, students and companies to discuss their work, as well as presents networking opportunities. Planned activities include technical presentations, lectures, webinars and tours of local nanotechnology research facilities and hubs. In addition, the NTC Chapter organizes an annual joint conference with the IEEE Magnetics Society Chicago chapter to present latest research areas, and promote local collaborations in the Chicago area.

Joining the NTC community is straightforward and does not cost any additional fees. You can join the NTC community, visit the IEEE Memberships and Subscriptions Catalog and select one of the NTC choices. The help menu explains your options. You currently don’t have to be an IEEE member to join the NTC community.  Sign in to your IEEE web account and if you are a member, add the NTC to your current membership.  If not a member you will be added to the NTC community list.

The Chapter Committee operates under the Code of Practice, which has been made in accordance to the by-laws of the IEEE Nanotechnology Council and the Chicago Section.

Nomination for 2025 IEEE Chicago Early Career Awards in Magnetics and Nanotechnology

Deadline: September 29, 2023

Following the success of the Awards since 2021, this year there will be a total of 2 awardees for the Early Career Awards (one in Magnetics and one in Nanotechnology). Each awardee will receive a cash award of $100. In addition, the awardees will be invited to give presentations about their achievements in the 7th Joint Annual Meeting of the IEEE Magnetics Society and Nanotechnology Council Chicago Chapters, which will be hosted as a hybrid meeting in November 21, 2025. The registration is free and will come soon along with the meeting agenda.

The nominated candidates should meet the following eligibility criteria:

  1. be currently working as a researcher, including both academic institutes and industry, from the Greater Chicago area or its neighbor states (Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri, Kentucky).
  2. be not more than 7 years after completion of his/her Ph.D. degree.
  3. have shown outstanding scientific or technical achievements in Magnetics or Nanotechnology.
  4. do not hold a permanent academic position (e.g., tenure-track faculty or equivalent research scientist positions)

How to nominate:

From this year, we will simplify the nomination process, and we only ask for a brief nomination statement with ~300 words to explain the achievement and qualification of the candidate, plus a detailed C.V. of the candidate. In addition, please combine the nomination letter with the C.V. of the candidate in one document in order to facilitate the reviewing process.

All the nominations should be emailed to yili@anl.gov before the mid-night of Sep. 26, 2025.
