Chicago Section

This course will include fundamental concepts that apply to SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Aquisition) and EMS (Energy Management System) systems used to monitor and control power system transmission and distribution networks by operators throughout the world.  The agenda will include a history of the development of these systems, the computer and communications hardware and software commonly used in these systems, and typical configurations.  Advance power system applications that help monitor and manage the transmission grid as part of the EMS will be covered.  These applications include State Estimation, Contingency Analysis, Operator Power Flow and Operator Training Simulator.  Cyber security concepts and requirements will be covered.
