Deadline: September 26, 2025

We invite nominations for 2025 IEEE Chicago Early Career Awards in Magnetics and Nanotechnology as our fourth annual award call since 2021. The awards aim to promote junior researchers area in their early career stages seeking for permanent academic positions, and to provide a platform to establish interactions and future collaborations in the area of Magnetics and Nanotechnology. The candidates are expected to demonstrate outstanding achievements in research in the discipline of Magnetics or Nanotechnology, and show potential to be successful in their future academic and research careers.

Following the success of the Awards since 2021, this year there will be a total of 2 awardees for the Early Career Awards (one in Magnetics and one in Nanotechnology). Each awardee will receive a cash award of $100. In addition, the awardees will be invited to give presentations about their achievements in the 7th Joint Annual Meeting of the IEEE Magnetics Society and Nanotechnology Council Chicago Chapters, which will be hosted as a hybrid meeting in November 21, 2025. The registration is free and will come soon along with the meeting agenda.

The nominated candidates should meet the following eligibility criteria:

  1. be currently working as a researcher, including both academic institutes and industry, from the Greater Chicago area or its neighbor states (Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri, Kentucky).
  2. be not more than 7 years after completion of his/her Ph.D. degree.
  3. have shown outstanding scientific or technical achievements in Magnetics or Nanotechnology.
  4. do not hold a permanent academic position (e.g., tenure-track faculty or equivalent research scientist positions)

How to nominate:

From this year, we will simplify the nomination process, and we only ask for a brief nomination statement with ~300 words to explain the achievement and qualification of the candidate, plus a detailed C.V. of the candidate. In addition, please combine the nomination letter with the C.V. of the candidate in one document in order to facilitate the reviewing process.

All the nominations should be emailed to yili@anl.gov before the mid-night of Sep. 26, 2025.

The award and event are sponsored by the IEEE Magnetics Society and Nanotechnology Council Chicago Chapters, and co-hosted by the IEEE Nanotechnology Council Young Professionals Region 4 (Central America).

IEEE Magnetics Society (www.ieeemagnetics.org) focus is on all matters involved in the fundamental development, design, and application of magnetic devices, including magnetic materials and phenomena. The society sponsors numerous conferences throughout the year.

IEEE Nanotechnology Council (www.ieeenano.org) is a multi-disciplinary group whose purpose is to advance and coordinate work in the field of Nanotechnology carried out throughout the IEEE in scientific, literary and educational areas. The Council supports the theory, design, and development of nanotechnology and its scientific, engineering, and industrial applications.

IEEE Nanotechnology Council Young Professionals (Region 4) is a representative branch of the Young Professionals segment inside the IEEE Nanotechnology Council, with the mission of promoting young professionals in Central America for academic success and professional connections.
