Sensors Council, Chicago Chapter

Welcome to the Chapter website of the Sensors Council, Chicago Chapter! The Sensors Council, Chicago Chapter of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) serve engineering and computer professionals in the twelve counties of the greater Chicago area. As part of the Chicago Section, the Sensors Chapter provides a local interface to the worldwide network of the IEEE.

The Sensors Chapter organizes technical presentations, lectures, webinars, social events, and networking opportunities of interest to sensors, transducers and integrated sensor-actuators professionals. The Chapter’s Fields of Interest include “the theory, design, fabrication, manufacturing and application of devices for sensing and transducing physical, chemical, and biological phenomena, with emphasis on the electronics, physics and reliability aspects of sensors and integrated sensor-actuators.”

The Chapter’s activities will be devoted to the following topics: physical, chemical, electronic and optical sensors, biosensors, electromagnetic and radiation sensors, micro- and nano-sensors, integrated sensor systems, manufacturing, packaging and modeling of sensors, sensor system networks, sensor data processing and analysis, and emerging applications of sensors in internet-of-things (IoTs), smart cities, Industry 4.0, wireless health, autonomous vehicles, intelligent agriculture, cyber-physics, and robotics.

The Chapter Committee operates under the Code of Practice, which has been made in accordance to the by-laws of the IEEE Sensors Council and the Chicago Section.

CHAIR:

Dr. Sasidhar Tadanki serves as the Chair of the IEEE Chicago Section and IEEE Sensors Council (Chicago Chapter), bringing a strong background as an experienced Radio Frequency Engineer in the medical device industry. Prior to becoming Section Chair, he held various leadership roles within the organization, including serving on the Section’s executive committee, as Student Activities Chair, and as the 2023 Distinguished Officer Award recipient. As Chair, he is focused on enhancing member engagement, improving volunteer management, and executing the long-term “Vision 2028” plan to elevate the region. Under his leadership and with his ongoing contributions to member retention, the Chicago chapter has maintained strong regional standing, recently taking home Region 4 awards including the Best Large Section Award.

VICE CHAIR:

Shubham is a Research and Development Engineer at Syntiant Corp., where he leads the development of new MEMS microphone sensor technologies, backed by an M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois at Chicago and more than eight years of experience in MEMS sensor design and acoustics. His work has advanced MEMS microphone technology for consumer electronics and includes research in design, nonlinear modeling, fabrication, and characterization of acoustic sensors, along with multiple IEEE publications and granted U.S. patents. As Vice Chair of Sensors Council, IEEE Chicago, he is focused on promoting sensor innovation, member engagement, student outreach, and industry-academia collaboration while supporting diversity, emerging technologies, and the Council’s broader mission.

SECRETARY:

Nishith Narayan Reddy is an Electrical Engineer with a strong focus on electronics hardware, sensor technologies, embedded systems, and intelligent control, driven by a passion for how systems interact with the physical world through sensing and communication. With a background in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and a MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Lewis University, he has developed expertise across hardware development, industrial automation, power systems, IoT, and sensor integration, with a particular interest in solving real-world engineering challenges that connect hardware and software. As Secretary of the IEEE Sensors Council Chicago Chapter, he actively promotes collaboration, knowledge sharing, and engagement around emerging technologies. His technical interests span sensors, embedded systems, automation, power and energy, wireless communication, and smart devices, with a focus on leveraging sensing technologies to enhance system efficiency, reliability, safety, and decision-making.

TREASURER:

Alfonso Flores brings expertise in intelligent systems, robotics integration, and advanced process control for manufacturing and regulated industrial environments. Based in Chicago, he currently contributes to automation projects at Eli Lilly as part of their manufacturing teams, supporting control system optimization, validation activities, and process improvements in pharmaceutical production. He also leads

technical initiatives at an engineering firm focused on industrial solutions. He holds a Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Lewis University with a concentration in Smart Grid and Power Systems. Alfonso is a member of the IEEE Chicago Section and participates in the Sensors Council Chapter. His professional interests include sensor integration, intelligent control systems, and the application of advanced technologies to strengthen domestic manufacturing operations.
